Formed as part of the Instrumental Awards Scheme, the Finella Quartet premiered Robin Holloway’s fourth Quartet in West Road earlier this year in an event to celebrate the composer’s 80th birthday.
For this performance, there will be a special pre-concert talk and introduction to the piece by the composer himself, starting at 12.40pm in the foyer of West Road Concert Hall.
This piece will be accompanied in the programme by the folk-centred world of Bartók’s second String Quartet, a work he finished in 1917 during the hardships of the First World War.
