Gillian Perkins retires after this festival and writes about this closing concert:
"In choosing what to have for a final event, I decided that the thing I have enjoyed the most during all the festivals I have put together has been those occasions when younger musicians perform. There is something intangibly inspiring about young players, something it's hard to describe, but quite obvious when you hear it. So I've asked seven young performers to give this special concert, choosing music that I love to listen to. In other words, this is a concert chosen entirely by private passions rather than via any public festival theme."
Tom Poster and Andrew Kennedy studied at King's Cambridge, where Andrew was a member of the choir. Both appeared in festivals as undergraduates, Andrew giving a memorable lunchtime recital in 1994 and Tom playing a ridiculous number of times in 2000, the year he was the piano finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year. To add to the Cambridge links, Magnus Johnston was a chorister at King's, so the Aronowitz Ensemble has become a treasured favourite of Cambridge audiences.
